“The goalkeeper is set to make his first start for Liverpool since joining the club from AS Roma last month.
“He will have ‘A. Becker 13’ on his shirt for the game at the Aviva Stadium but supporters should note that this is a provisional, unconfirmed squad number for the Brazil international.
“The club will announce Alisson’s permanent number in due course, and that of fellow summer signing Fabinho, who has provisionally been wearing No.3 in pre-season.”
Loris Karius currently holds the No. 1 jersey at Anfield, with Simon Mignolet the club’s No. 22, but it’s been reported that both players could be offloaded by manager Jurgen Klopp this summer.
Klopp is said to be prepared to show his faith in youth by promoting youngsters Kamil Grabara and Caoimhin Kelleher to the main squad.
And if Karius is sold then one would imagine that the No. 1 shirt will be heading Alisson’s way because there’s no doubt that the Brazilian stopper will be Klopp’s first-choice ‘keeper for the season ahead after the Merseyside club splashed out £67 million for his services.
