Arsenal supporters are particularly pleased about Stoke City’s relegation

They're over the moon

Arsenal have had precious little to celebrate this season.

The Gunners will have no Champions League football next term, having failed to finish in the Premier League top four and missed out on Europa League glory, so the club’s supporters are clutching at straws for positives.

But Arsenal fans are celebrating this weekend after a match in which they weren’t even involved.

Crystal Palace’s 2-1 comeback victory over Stoke City on Saturday afternoon confirmed the Potters’ relegation to the Championship.

After a decade in the Premier League, Stoke have returned to the second tier of English football and Arsenal supporters couldn’t be happier.

For eight years, Arsenal haven’t had the greatest relationship with Stoke, with a 2010 leg-breaking tackle from Ryan Shawcross on Aaron Ramsey making him very unpopular among the Emirates faithful.

Certain Potters fans have been criticised for their use of a nasty chant when the clubs have met since the incident – “Aaron Ramsey, he walks with a limp”.

A mistake from Shawcross on Saturday, which played in Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt, condemned them to Championship life and Arsenal fans have struggled to find any sympathy.
