Arsenal’s Aubameyang deal could see another player head in the opposite direction

One in, one out

It’s shaping up to be a busy end to the January transfer window for Arsenal Football Club.

You might have heard.

Alexis Sanchez appears close to finally sealing his move to Manchester United, with the Chilean believed to have completed a medical and paperwork while at the club’s training ground on Sunday. In exchange, Arsenal will receive Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with the Armenian in London waiting for the deal to be finalised.

And that’s not all, either. Arsenal are also believed to be in negotiations for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Borussia Dortmund.

The Gabonese forward, who linked up well with Mkhitaryan when he was at Dortmund, is said to be on the brink of leaving the Bundesliga with Ivan Gazidis in Germany to try and get the deal over the line.

Although reports have suggested Dortmund are demanding a fee in excess of £55m for Aubameyang, it’s now being claimed that another swap deal could be in the offing.  According to German publication Kicker, Olivier Giroud could move in the opposite direction.

Unlike the Mkhitaryan-Sanchez deal, this will not be a straight player-for-player swap. Instead, Giroud is expected to be offered as a makeweight to bring down the overall cost of Aubameyang.

Giroud is said to be open to a move to Dortmund in a bid to help secure a place in the France squad at next summer’s World Cup.
