It would certainly help improve their financial situation
Barcelona have been offered a new shirt sponsorship which would become the largest sponsorship package in football history.
Barça’s match day shirts are currently sponsored by Rakuten whilst Beko sponsor the club’s training kit and both have just six months left on their current contract.
However according to Sport, the Blaugrana are not short of offers, including ones from the world of cryptocurrency.
VeganNation and Polkadot are two of the frontrunners and have proposals that could pocket the club in the region of €80m (£67m) a year.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reportedly held talks with VeganNation’s CEO Isaac Thomas which, if successful, would see their own cryptocurrency brand GreenCoin become the Catalan club’s primary sponsor – meaning they could feature on the front of Barcelona’s shirts and training kit from next season.
Polkadot meanwhile are rumoured to have offered a deal bigger than current sponsors Rakuten whilst music streaming service Spotify are also said to be in contention for sponsorship.
Any deal would significantly improve Barça’s dire financial situation. The club has amassed debts of up to £1.16bn, resulting in them losing several key stars including Lionel Messi.
Despite revealing the problems off the pitch, the Catalan club are still prepared to continue with plans to revamp the Nou Camp, as well as surrounding areas, which could cost the La Liga side up to €1.5bn.
