Barcelona unveil new checked home shirt

The stripes are gone. OH MY GOD THE STRIPES ARE GONE

Nike have unveiled their 2019/20 home shirt for Barcelona, ditching the traditional stripes in favour of a checked pattern in their famous red and blue.

The shirt incorporates the yellow and red of the Catalan flag just above the neckline and, according to Nike, is inspired by the gridded streetscape of Barcelona’s Eixample district.

Take a look at their snazzy unveiling video below:

And here are their four captains modelling the kit.

First up, the GOAT:

Very good Leo. Excellent stare into the distance. A model professional. And a professional model.

Sergio Busquets could do with some tips, though. Here he is looking a bit too much like he is flashing someone.

Obviously, Gerard Pique knows how to flaunt it. This isn’t his first rodeo.

And finally Sergi Roberto, for some reason.

Oh no wait, sorry, here’s a bonus photo of Philippe Coutinho looking absolutely terrified in the tunnel before a match.

Would it be unfair to call that an accurate depiction of his time at Barcelona so far? Possibly.

Of the kit, and the criticism it has received from some corners, Pique himself said:

“The kit is something new and exciting. It might be different but it is 100 per cent Barca and it is even better that the design represents the bond the club has with the supporters and the people who are driving the city forward.”
