Bayern Munich are hopeful of hiring Mauricio Pochettino as their new coach for next season, according to German newspaper Bild.

Current Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes came out of retirement to take over from Carlo Ancelotti earlier this season and is expected to retire at the end of the season, having arrested their decline and all but wrapped up the Bundesliga title already.

However, he recently hinted that he may want to stay on at the Allianz Arena. “I can only say nothing at all is decided yet, because, until now I have definitely never said I will retire in the summer,” he told Sport Bild last week.

It might be out of his hands though, with Bayern reportedly after Pochettino. According to Bild, the chances of Bayern pulling off this coup are ‘bad’, which you didn’t need me to tell you.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain and would not be keen to let Pochettino leave. The club are reported to be readying a huge new bumper contract for Pochettino in order to keep him at the club as they enter a new era. The coach seems happy at Spurs too, and with his project still progressing but by no means finished, he’ll probably want to remain at Spurs until he achieves his goal of winning a major title.

It’s probably not worth Bayern even making the phone call, in all honesty.

Bayern have also been linked with former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel, who is currently without a club but would fit the bill for Bayern in their search for . young, dynamic coach to take the team into a new era.
