Renaming a stadium is always a tricky situation
As a club, you want to rename it to something as tasteful as possible, if you’re going to rename it at all, and try to avoid buzz words, numbers or anything that could be conveyed as, well, crap.
A bad stadium name can colour the way your own fans see you, the general perception of your club in the broader scheme of things, as well as potentially ruining an historic and famous name.
As such, there was a touch of dismay from Birmingham City fans today when it was confirmed that the club had renamed their St. Andrew’s stadium as the St. Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium.
The name comes from the team’s parent company, Trillion Trophy Asia, which will also adorn the club’s training ground, which will now be known as the Trillion Trophy Training Ground. Quite the mouthful.
Understandably, this change of name has not exactly gone down too well with Birmingham supporters, who have endured year after year of relegation struggles and general pain in recent seasons.
The response to the name change has been predominantly negative, and they’ve let the club know about it.
As if we have renamed St. Andrews
