Brazilian youngster scores Puskas award contender goal

It’s been compared to James Rodriguez’s goal at the 2014 World Cup

A youngster in Brazil scored a wondergoal for Vasco de Gama’s Carioca in their win against Madureira, with many comparing it to James Rodriguez’s strike for Colombia in the 2014 World Cup.

Gabriel Pec was the scorer of the speculative effort on Sunday after just five minutes.

The 20-year-old brought the ball down from a skied clearance before unleashing a well-timed volley which swerved in the air before finding the back of the net.

Fans who saw the strike went wild on social media – with many drawing comparisons to former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez’s memorable goal against Uruguay for Colombia in the 2014 World Cup.

Rodriguez’s effort subsequently won him the Puskas award for 2014 and many believe the youngster Pec’s goal is worthy of being nominated too.

One supporter said: “PUSKAS HIM! If James won with the same goal, Gabriel Pec deserves it too!’

Meanwhile another supporter tweeted: “Simply Puskas 2022, Gabriel pec. Totally pornographic and banned in 256 countries. James Rodriguez’s goal is beautiful but it doesn’t even take effect and the ball is in the middle of the goal.”

One fan also tweeted: “This goal by Gabriel Pec reminded me a lot of James Rodríguez’s goal against Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup. (I know it wasn’t on the same side, but I’m talking about the way to control the ball and finish it).”

Pec has made a strong start to the Brazilian campaign this season as has two goals from four games already this season – a much better return than last year where he scored only once all year.
