BREAKING: Manchester City crowned Champions as Man United lose to West Bromwich Albion

The title is heading back to the Etihad

Manchester City have won their first Premier League title under Pep Guardiola after second placed Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat to bottom of the table West Brom this afternoon.

This result leaves City 16 points clear of their local rivals with only five games remaining, making it mathematically impossible for United to catch them.

City almost secured their status as champions last weekend, as they went into half-time against United with a two goal lead. But United were determined not to let that happen, and came back to win 2-3 thanks to a quick brace from Paul Pogba and a winning goal from Chris Smalling.

But that only delayed the party by one week. Jay Rodriguez’s 73rd minute goal at Old Trafford today was enough to hand the title to City, who undoubtedly deserve to be champions.

City displayed a strong mentality to bounce back from three consecutive defeats and beat Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Saturday night, as they outclassed Mauricio Pochettino’s side in every way.

Pep Guardiola will be delighted to have won two trophies this season, but will be determined to go one step further and win the Champions League next season – something he has not done since leaving Barcelona in 2012.
