Arsene Wenger, after 22 years, will leave Arsenal at the end of the season.
A statement from the 68-year-old was issued by the club on Friday morning. In it, he explained that after careful consideration he had decided to step down from his position following the current campaign.
Naturally, the talk of who might be replacing him as Arsenal manager has already started, with a number of names linked with the job.
Carlo Ancelotti (6/1) is the early favourite to take the job. The Italian, out of work since leaving Bayern Munich earlier in the year, with the Evening Standard reporting that Arsenal consider him a serious candidate to take over from Wenger.
Despite being strongly linked with Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel (7/1) is also one of the early frontrunners.
Former Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta, who has been working as one of the coaches at Manchester City, is also 8/1 to become the new manager, as are Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, Germany boss Joachim Low and Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers.
Patrick Vieira, a member of Wenger’s most successful Arsenal squads, is also likely to be one of the options. He has spent the last few years as manager of New York City FC in Major League Soccer.
