His time at Chelsea has been a mixed bag
Last summer, Antonio Conte finally got what he wanted: Álvaro Morata. Conte wanted the striker at Juventus but they just missed each other as Conte took the Italy job in 2014. In 2017, the pair were united in what started off as a very productive relationship.
Morata scored eight goals in his first nine games for Chelsea. But his form dropped off after he picked up a back injury and he never rediscovered the form he had hit earlier in the season.
Olivier Giroud arrived in January and has outshone Morata, scoring big goals in important matches. He will likely lead the Chelsea line for now, before another star striker is signed in the summer.
There has been a lot of speculation around his future, with the Spaniard being linked with a return to Juve. According to Tuttosport, the Italian newspaper, Chelsea have approved his return. Morata would join Gonzalo Higuaín, Mario Mandžukić and Paulo Dybala at Juventus, so it’s not as if he’d be a definite starter.
But he would likely be a lot happier back in Turin, which plays a huge part in his confidence in front of goal. Morata had a good relationship with Max Allegri, but there is no guarantee he will still be there next season, with Arsenal interested in hiring him.
