Maurizio Sarri knows him well
It’s going to be a very busy summer at Stamford Bridge. First, Chelsea must hire sort out their managerial situation. Then, they must finalise whether star players Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois are going to stay or leave.
It seems that Maurizio Sarri is set to take over, although Antonio Conte is yet to walk away, after the longest staring contest between manager and club in living memory, both sides refusing to blink.
Even the arrival of Sarri might not be enough to keep hold of their key players though. Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois could both end up at Real Madrid.
Courtois only has one year left on his contract, and the Belgian ‘keeper would like to return to Spain where his family have lived since his three year loan spell at Atlético Madrid.
Chelsea have been linked with Roma’s Alisson as a replacement for Courtois, but it has since emerged that they will approach AC Milan for teenage sensation Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian is still only 19 but has over 100 Serie A appearances to his name as well as six caps for Italy.
Should Sarri take over at Chelsea and sign Donnarumma, he will know all about the young keeper’s talents, after his spectacular save prevented Sarri’s Napoli from stealing a late win at the San Siro last season.
