Nail-biting stuff

Chesterfield’s Liam Mandeville decided to pay homage to Paul Scholes in unique fashion after he gave his side the lead at Salford City in the FA Cup.

Scholes, who is one of the co-owners at the League Two side went viral recently for a video in which he appeared to be chewing the toenails of his daughter and was mocked across all of social media.

Chesterfield, who are currently challenging near the top of the Vanarama National League and face higher league opposition int the Second Round of the tournament, took a shock lead courtesy of Mandeville’s speculative effort which cannoned off the crossbar.

In fairness, the strike alone would have been a worthy tribute to Scholes – who scored a fair few rockets in his playing career, but the 24-year-old decided to take it one step further.

With the ITV cameras present, the 24-year-old used it as an opportunity to mock Scholes one more time as he wheeled away in jubilation.

With his teammates around him, they then seemingly looked like they were recreating the infamous video which had so many cringing at Scholes.

It’s unknown whether Scholes himself is at the Peninsula Stadium, however those who witnessed it would have no doubt instantly recognised the events Mandeville was referring to.

As it stands, the fifth tier side remain in front at the break as they remain 45 minutes away from a potential glamour against Premier League or Championship opposition.
