Pulisic was one of many Chelsea players to receive a low score
Christian Pulisic was one of a host of Chelsea players to receive a low rating from French newspaper L’Equipe after they were dismantled by Real Madrid on Wednesday night.
Thomas Tuchel’s side were cut apart by Madrid as Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick to give Los Blancos a 3-1 aggregate lead heading back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Benzema’s brilliance was too much for Chelsea
Benzema scored two sensational headers to give the Spanish side a two-goal advantage before Kai Havertz’s header on the stroke of half time brought the Blues back into the tie.
But Chelsea capitulated not long after the restart after a mistake from Edouard Mendy was capitalised on by talisman Benzema, who was able to roll the ball home into an empty net.
Absolutely spectacular, this 🔥

Pulisic and Mendy in particular received low scores
Damning match ratings for #CFC players from L’Equipe. Doesn’t make good reading for Pulisic – though wouldn’t be my choice for worst player. Benzema rightly marked highly…accomplice Vinicius strangely underrated: #CHERMA pic.twitter.com/pVOPCHHltX

After the game at Stamford Bridge, L’Equipe – who are well known for their harsh ratings – didn’t hold back in their assessment of the Blues’ display as players received extremely low scores.
Pulisic was the lowest scorer on the night with a 2/10, while goalkeeper Mendy was compared to Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius for his mistake and was given a score of three by Spanish media.
AS said: “To all this we must add the tremendous error of Edouard Mendy. After Karius, Ulreich and Donnarumma, the enthusiastic pressure from Benzema already has another victim on his resumé.”
As for Benzema, he was unsurprisingly dubbed the star of the show in west London. The superstar forward was sprawled across the front pages along with the caption ‘Triple d’Or’ – hinting that the French forward should be recognised as the world’s best footballer.

Despite the disappointing defeat, Tuchel claimed that the tie was not over and that his side have what it takes to stage a comeback.
The second leg takes place in Madrid next Tuesday.
