They’ve achieved a lot together in three short seasons
Zinedine Zidane announced his departure from Real Madrid today, after three seasons which saw the La Liga team claim three consecutive Champions League titles; breaking their previous record of two consecutive titles.
His departure came as something as a shock to media and fans, with his hastily called press conference coming less than a week since his side defeated Liverpool in the Champions League final.
It came to a shock to club president Florentino Perez too, who revealed during today’s press conference that he had learned of Zidane’s plan to quit as recently as yesterday.
Unsurprisingly, there has been outpouring of affection since he made the announcement, with a host of Madrid players thanking their former manager for working with them over an incredibly successful three seasons.
One of those players was Cristiano Ronaldo, who posted an uncharacteristically humble and heartfelt post, saying:
“I’m just proud to have been your player. Mister, thank you so much.”
