It gets worse and worse for the Spain’s number one
David De Gea has absolutely fucked it, again.
Once upon a time earning plaudits as the best goalkeepers in the world and demanding a pay packet to go with it, a series of uncharacteristic mistakes have been significant in Manchester United losing seven in their last nine.
A 4-0 drubbing at Everton, Barcelona putting three unanswered goals past him, a couple of errors in the Manchester Derby.
United’s de facto captain Ashley Young came out this week to defend his goalie, telling Sky Sports:Â “David is a world-class player. He’s probably the best in the world for me.”
“When he lets a few goals in people are going to criticise him but for me it starts at the front, the midfield, defenders – if the ball doesn’t get that far back the other team doesn’t have a chance to score.
“It’s not just him that should be criticised, it’s the whole team. He’s a confident person who will be ready for the challenge on Sunday.”
But it doesn’t look like De Gea was ready for the challenge.
1-0 up against Chelsea after a superb team goal finished by Juan Mata, United looked good. Unfortunately, Antonio Rudiger decided to take a shot straight at De Gea from 40 yards out.
The Spanish keeper limply parried the ball into the path of Marcos Alonso, who had followed the shot in and dinked the ball against the far post and into the net.
1-1.
Manchester United now have the fewest home clean sheets this Premier League season, with two. One below Fulham, Huddersfield, Southampton and West Ham.
Who’s going to bail David out this time?
