The ink had barely dried on Steven Gerrard’s Rangers contract when he was immediately linked with several former Liverpool teammates.
And it looks like Frank Lampard is going to get the same treatment now that his management journey has begun at Derby County.
Lampard was confirmed as new Derby boss on Thursday morning and, given the fact that his close friend John Terry’s time at Aston Villa came to an end just 24 hours earlier, Rams supporters immediately jumped to the conclusion that a Chelsea reunion was on the cards at Pride Park.
Terry’s availability was mentioned during Lampard’s first press conference but the ex-England midfielder remained non-committal on any potential approach for his long-time teammate.
“I haven’t spoken to John. I had a message from him. At the moment, I think he’s in Greece,” Lampard said.
However Lampard’s uncle, Harry Redknapp, has suggested that it would make complete sense for the new Rams manager to attempt to sign Terry.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Redknapp said: “John Terry… what a signing he’d be!
“I would still take him for another year; he’s a great professional and great around the place. That would be an interesting one.
“Jody Morris [Lampard’s rumoured assistant] and John are big pals, so that fits nicely that one.”
Bookies have given odds of 5/4 for the reunion to take place and supporters remain utterly convinced that Lampard will be able to pull off a move for the veteran defender.
Frank Lampard sounded like he's already made his plans for #DCFC and has an understanding with Mel. I think there's a 99.9% chance that John Terry will be signing for us…….
