Rest in peace, Adham El-Selhadar
The coach of a second division side in Egypt sadly died after suffering a heart attack shortly after his team had scored a last-minute goal.
Adham El-Selhadar, who was in charge of Al-Majd reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest after his side scored in the 91st minute against Al Zarqa last week.
According to reports from Egypt, witnesses saw the 53-year-old collapsed unconscious during the celebrations of the goal and was pronounced dead before arriving to the hospital, as reported by Gulf News.
Two of Egypt’s biggest clubs, Al Ahly and Ismaily SC both released statements with heartfelt tributes dedicated to El-Selhadar.
Al Ahly said: “Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of the club, and the members of the board of directors, mourn with great sadness and sorrow, Coach Adham El-Selhadar, the former Ismaily player, who passed away on Thursday, praying to the Almighty to cover the deceased with his vast mercy and enter him into his vast gardens.”
Meanwhile, Ismaily said: “The Ismaily Board of Directors, headed by Engineer Yahya El-Komy, mourns the death of Adham El-Selhadar, a star and former coach of the team, who passed away as a result of a sudden heart attack, following his follow-up to the match of his team, “El-Majd” Alexandria, in the second division league competitions.”
Ismaily also announced that as a result of the news the board of directors had declared three days of mourning in memory of El-Selhadar.
The 53-year-old’s second division side El-Majd also announced they would enter a period of mourning for six days and as a result, have suspended their next fixture.
