England fans will have to cheer on their side from home on Saturday evening, as the FA has confirmed that it will not be selling tickets for the quarter-final match in Rome due to Italian quarantine measures.
The FA said that it will not be selling tickets to the England Supporters Travel Club (ESTC), the official England away support group, with tickets instead being made available through the UK embassy in Rome for English expatriates living in Italy.
The Guardian reports that the Italian government’s coronavirus measures mean that all British citizens must quarantine for five days on arrival in Italy.
In a statement to ESTC members on Tuesday night, the FA said: “Unfortunately, the FA will not be selling any tickets via the ESTC for this fixture given the travel restrictions in place across both countries, and as such are working with Uefa and the British embassy in Italy to facilitate as many ticket sales to English residents in Italy as possible.”
English fans living in Italy will get priority for the precious tickets to England’s clash with Ukraine on Saturday. But with an estimated 30,000 UK citizens living in Italy, there’s likely to be high demand for a valuable seat at the match.
The quarantine rules for British citizens travelling to Italy from the UK will be in place until the end of July. Anyone travelling to Italy who has been in the UK in the previous 14 days must self-isolate for five days, before then testing negative for the disease.
England booked their place in the last eight of Euro 2020 with a stunning win over Germany on Tuesday. The quarter-final in Rome will be the first and only time that they play away from Wembley in the tournament, with both semi-finals and the final being in London.
