Another meme in the making
Aston Villa were defeated by Fulham in the Championship play-off final today, meaning that they are consigned to the second division for yet another season.
It was a goal by Fulham captain Tom Cairney which took the Cottagers up, and which, unfortunately for Villa centre-back and captain John Terry, gave football fans – both Fulham fans and everyone else – the opportunity for a bit of a cruel laugh.
Terry was famously pictured bawling his eyes out after his penalty miss handed the Champions League to Manchester United in 2008, and it would appear that people are reacting exactly the same way to him tonight.
The joy is widespread and frankly, we’re not exactly sure what it says about the world, nor do we really want to know. But one thing is sure, John Terry crying in 2018 is the new John Terry crying in 2008.
