Ramos has barely featured for PSG this season
There are growing fears that Sergio Ramos may be forced to retire from football sooner rather than later due to persistent calf injuries that have blighted the twilight of his career.
Ramos has struggled for fitness since his move to Paris Saint-Germain from Real Madrid in the summer – playing just five times for the French giants.
Alongside the likes of Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Lionel Messi, the experienced centre-back was one of PSG’s signature signings brought in to achieve their ultimate aim of winning the Champions League.
The Spaniard has enjoyed a glittering career, winning pretty much everything there is to win, but his relentless career may have to come to and end according to Jean-Marcel Ferret, who was once the doctor for the French national team.
During an interview with Le Parisien, Ferret explained that Ramos may be suffering from ‘old calf syndrome.’
“The injuries are very difficult because you can never predict how they will evolve,” he said.
“It’s all about the configuration of the calf muscle. You have to consider how the muscle has aged given the blows Ramos has taken in has career while playing at the highest level for 19 seasons and how much that has weakened his calves.”
Ferret also added that Ramos’ calves have lost their flexibility over the years and that in turn makes them more fragile and susceptible to injury.
The Spaniard turns 36 next month and while he hasn’t revealed any plans to retire, may now have to reconsider if injuries continue to hamper his playing time.
