After spending many a sleepless night wondering if Marouane Fellaini had played his last game for the club – some good news. Word from Belgium suggests he’s set to prolong his stay at Old Trafford, even though his contract is due to expire in a couple of days.
The 30-year-old, who joined United from Everton in 2013, is currently at the World Cup preparing for Belgium’s final group game against England. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, he confirmed he already knew where he’d be playing next season but was not ready to make his announcement just yet.
“I know where I’m going to play next year and that does not affect my performance at World Cup,” he said. “The contract has been signed and I’m going to announce it within a few days.”
Although Fellaini has been linked with moves to Turkey, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Arsenal, Wednesday’s edition of HLN (via SportWitness) claims that, without a “sudden turnaround”, Fellaini will now commit his future to United.
His decision appears to have been motivated by his desire to win the Premier League, the report also pointing out that he believes this is possible with Jose Mourinho at the helm and international teammate Romelu Lukaku scoring the goals.
United are expected to made more signings before the close of the transfer window following the arrivals of Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot from Porto and Brazilian midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.
