We all love celebrity couples.
Posh and Becks, Harry and Meghan, Elton and David, Neil and Christine Hamilton, the list goes on.
While we reap untold joy from their happiness as is our wont as perfectly normal human beings, there is one negative associated with committing ourselves emotionally to these couples: we are left heartbroken when they break up.
It happened with Charlies and Diana – I remember as a seven-year-old asking my mother why the two couldn’t give it another go, for Britain – and, unfortunately, it has happened again today.
That’s right ladies and gents, football’s hottest celebrity couple – Jose Mourinho and Duncan Castles – have gone their separate ways. What once seemed unthinkable now appears all but certain, if Jose’s most recent press conference is anything to go by.
“It’s a big lie”
Speaking at his weekly Manchester United presser, the Portuguese coach rubbished claims by the Scottish journalist that he and Paul Pogba are on poor terms, or – as Castles had suggested – that Pogba wants his manager to change formation.
“It is a big lie that our relationship is not good, that we don’t communicate, that we don’t agree with his positions and his involvement in the dynamic of the team so be objective and say what we all know,” said Mourinho earlier today.
“Paul accepts he has not been playing well but that’s all and if you want to speak about it that’s one thing and speculation your words makes a little bit of sense but the majority of things you can read and listen, don’t be polite, be objective and say lies.”
What next?
Such outright denial of a Duncan Castles article is almost unheard of from Mourinho, especially since some in the media had suggested that he himself had leaked info of his disagreement with the French midfielder.
But it does raise some questions regarding what’s next for the pair? Shall we see Mourinho cavorting around Mayfair with a cohort of eligible journalists keen to do his bidding? Or will he take to Facebook to post passive aggressive status updates about “cutting toxic ppl out of ur lyf”?
One thing is for certain though. Whatever happens, this is not the ending that any football fan – or old school romantic – ever wanted.
