Former Man Utd man Carlos Tevez ‘in talks’ over return to football aged 38

Tevez could follow in the footsteps of an ex-United teammate

Carlos Tevez could be set for a remarkable return to football at the age of 38, just months after claiming that he had ‘no desire’ to return to the game following his third spell with boyhood club Boca Juniors.

The Argentina international is reportedly in talks with Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit D.C. United about signing for the American club.

Tevez began his professional career more than 20 years ago, featuring for several Premier League teams including West Ham United, Manchester United and Manchester City.

In November, the striker revealed that he had “no desire” to return to professional football, despite earlier suggestions that he could keep playing into his forties.

“I would like something to grab my interest and motivate me or which brings something out of me,” Tevez said, having left Boca over the summer.

“Right now, every time I watch Juventus, Boca or a team I’ve played for, I look inside myself for that fire to motivate myself to play for six months or a year longer and I can’t find it.”

However, as reported by The Athletic, talks are now ongoing over a deal to sign for the club where his former United teammate Wayne Rooney played between 2018-2020.

While D.C. are yet to agree financial terms with Tevez, reports are suggesting that the MLS side have a ’25 per cent chance’ of agreeing a deal with the Argentine.

Fellow MLS clubs Minnesota United and Orlando City are also thought to be interested in the veteran striker, with Orlando recently losing their designated player when ex-United winger Nani signed for Venezia.

D.C. United finished in eighth position in the Eastern Conference last season and narrowly missed out on the end-of-season playoffs. They also have an Argentine coach in charge in Hernan Losada.
