Gary Neville describes Man Utd as “shoddy, scrappy and scruffy”

“The performances have been so shoddy all season in terms of team performances”

Gary Neville has criticised Manchester United for their poor performances as a team, labelling Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as “shoddy, scrappy and scruffy.”

United continued their poor form after the international break, losing 4-2 to Leicester City on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils had made a strong start after Mason Greenwood’s thumping effort clipped off the post into the top corner.

Youri Tielemans then equalised after the half-hour mark with a looping first-time shot before Caglar Soyuncu put the Foxes in the lead with 10 minutes left.

Marcus Rashford equalised once again, scoring on his return from injury, before Jamie Vardy went straight up the other end and put Leicester back in front.

Patson Daka’s first goal for the club in stoppage time condemned United to another disappointing result which saw them drop out of the top four and further increase the pressure on Solskjaer, however officials at Old Trafford have instilled their full confidence in the Norwegian.

And Neville didn’t hold back in his assessment, saying that when United face anybody with a game plan, they struggle to find the way to win.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “There are issues as their performance are nowhere near good enough.

“The performances have been so shoddy all season in terms of team performances. There’s been some good results and some great individual goals, but the overall performances and the unit in and out of possession have been shoddy.

“It’s scrappy and scruffy to watch. When you play a team with a clear organisation and a methodology, you’re going to get pulled apart and that’s what happened here. They were pulled apart by Villa, pulled apart by Everton and pulled apart by Villarreal.”

The pundit then went on to critique even further, saying that whilst there is great individual talent at United, they need to learn how to play as a team and must work harder.

He said: “Manchester United at this moment in time are imbalanced. The performances are now getting what they deserve in terms of the results. It needs to change. The performances need to be a lot better and today was no surprise.

“I think the performances over the season haven’t been good enough even when they’ve been winning. Against Newcastle [when Man Utd won 4-1], everyone got carried away but they weren’t very good that day.”

The fixture list doesn’t get any kinder for the Red Devils either, with United set to face five of the current top six in the Premier League over the course of the next few months, as well as the Champions League which resumes on Wednesday when they face Atalanta.
