Pique helped Barcelona to a convincing El Clasico win in Madrid
With just three words, Gerard Pique sent the internet into meltdown after Barcelona hammered Real Madrid during Sunday evening’s El Clasico.
Goals from Ferran Torres, Ronald Araujo and a brace from the in-form Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saw Xavi’s side stun their great rivals with a 4-0 victory at the Bernabeu.
Pique played a pivotal role, featuring for the full 90 minutes as the Catalan club kept Madrid’s Karim Benzema-less attack quiet for the duration.
Pique eyeing a return to Barcelona glory days
The experienced Spanish international has been there for all of Barça’s highs since returning to his boyhood club from Manchester United in 2008.
Lately, however, he has also witnessed their downfall firsthand – culminating in the departure of good friend Lionel Messi last summer.
A win over their great rivals, however, has added to the sense that things are on the up once again – as reflected in Pique’s post-match tweet.
Following the win in Madrid, the defender posted a three-word message, which was the internet’s cue to completely lose their minds. He said: “We are back.”

Pique told not to get ahead of himself
The post caused widespread debate as many reminded the defender that despite the three points, Barca are still a long way behind Los Blancos.
One user tweeted: “‘We are back.’
“Barcelona are in the Europa League, currently 12 points off the team at the top, Real Madrid. They’re hardly back yet.”

Another user said: “Why would you set yourself up like this? one loss and this tweet is getting spammed to oblivion.”

Another angry (presumably Real Madrid) fan said: “Just what I needed, someone tells piqué that he’s only known as ‘Shakira’s ex husband.'”

Barcelona remain 12 points behind Real Madrid in the LaLiga table, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side still on course to win the title.
