Let’s just forget about the whole not turning up for training thing
Harry Kane believes that he has coped well with the speculation surrounding his future despite struggling to hit his regular heights this season.
Kane was the centre of a major transfer saga after he tried to leave Tottenham Hotspur, however a move to Manchester City failed to materialise after Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy held his nerve and kept the 28-year-old.
Controversy also included the drama of Kane not returning to pre-season training on schedule, but that seems to be water under the bridge between supporters and Kane after he posted an Instagram post confirming his commitment to the club.
Since the whole debacle, Kane has looked a shadow of his usual self on the pitch. Normally he is hitting goals left, right and centre at this point, but the England captain has just one Premier League goal this season.
Speaking about the speculation during the summer ahead of England’s game against Albania on Friday night, Kane felt that he had dealt well with the talk about him.
He said: “Obviously there was a lot of talk and speculation over the summer.
“That is the first time it has really happened to me. But that is part and parcel of being a big player and I think I coped with it well.”
Kane’s inconsistency was mirrored by the rest of the Tottenham squad as a poor start to the season costed Nuno Espirito Santo his job, with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss replaced by Antonio Conte.
The 28-year-old said the club had shown ‘great ambition’ to appoint the Italian, but it remains to be seen if Kane will make a u-turn on his desire to leave and accept that his long term future lies at Spurs.
