If Nuno goes to Everton, he wants to bring Neto with him

Nuno is being linked with the Everton job and so is one of his recent Wolves signings

Nuno Espirito Santo is the bookies’ favourite for the vacant Everton job and having seen what he did at Wolves – promotion, seventh in his first Premier League season and a run in the Europa League with the fewest players used – it’s not hard to see why.

There has been some decent recruitment over at Molineux in the past few seasons and one name, in particular, stands out: 21-year-old and fellow countryman, Pedro Neto.

Speaking on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast, Duncan Castles has said that not only is Nuno the “preferred choice” for the job but that, if he makes his way to Goodison, Pedro Neto would be one man he’d like to take with him.

“One individual who is important here is Pedro Neto”, said Castle’s, adding that “Nuno would like to take him to Everton in an ideal world.

“Everton have been interested in Neto for some time and Neto is available for sale this summer, and one of a number of players Wolves have put on the market in an attempt to raise cash in order to reinvest in the team, which Bruno Lage will take over.”

Bruno Lage has been touted as Nuno’s replacement for the past couple of weeks, with an official announcement expected soon. The 45-year-old previously managed Benfica, winning the Primeira Liga and the Portuguese Super Cup.

Castles insisted that the Toffees have spoken with Nuno and insisted “the interview went well”, with “Everton [telling] him that he was their preferred choice for the job.”

Moreover, a move for Neto would make a lot of sense: bringing in someone who already knows how to play his football, not to mention top, young talent that would give Everton another option up front.

Neto registered five goals and six assists – not crazy numbers but more than respectable for someone still so new to the league and you only need to have watched him to see how much he provides outside of direct goal contributions too.
