I’ll warn you, this will ruin your day
As is always the case when a major sporting event or pop culture moment comes around, politicians love to hop on the bandwagon. Euro 2020 has been no different.
Politicians who not too long ago were pretty adamant that booing the team was alright are now behind them 100% now that there’s a whiff of success associated with the side.
In recent days we’ve seen Priti Patel don an England shirt to cheer on the Gareth Southgate’s multicultural side, and Boris Johnson parading a shirt with his name on the back.
Then who can forget the horribly staged moment of the Prime Minister ‘celebrating’ England’s goals against Germany, or Keir Starmer invoking the spirit of Blair by claiming that “Labour is coming home.”
But this is next-level stomach churning.
It’s Jacob Rees-Mogg, in the House of Commons, reciting the famous John Barnes rap from World In Motion.
Man of the terraces, Jacob Rees Mogg, who I’m going to pretty confidently predict has never been to a football match in his life.
Jacob Rees Mogg, the man who defended those that boo players taking the knee, claiming that they are simply pushing back against a culture of “wokeness.”
He stands up before the House and says: “Everyone, I think, is rejoicing at the football success, and I think the line to take Mr Speaker, is from Mr Barnes…”
I’ll let Moggy take it from here.

I’m sorry you had to see that. I really am. Quickly, go and put the original on, or Three Lions, or maybe even Sweet Caroline, and watch the Harry Kane goal from Wednesday on repeat. That may help cleanse your eyes, mind and soul from the nightmarish horror scape in the above clip.
