Mourinho clashed with Salernitana coach Davide Nicola on Sunday
Jose Mourinho was involved in yet another bust-up on Sunday as he clashed with Salernitana coach Davide Nicola in their 2-1 win at the Stadio Olimpco.
The Giallorossi were involved in another altercation just three days earlier following their defeat to Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals.
Both clubs accused each other of assault following a clash between Roma goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos and Bodø/Glimt’s manager, Kjetil Knutsen.
Mourinho took a sly dig at Bodø/Glimt
Mourinho did apologise to the Salernitana coach during his post-match interview and also used the opportunity to throw a little dig in the way of the Norwegian giant killers.
“Things were said that were not right,” admitted the former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea boss.
“I tell the truth, not like some clubs or the police. Someone on my bench told the Salernitana staff they were going to Serie B. I want to apologise for the lad who said that.
“We are civilised people, what happens on the field ends there. Nobody will be waiting outside 45 minutes later to punch someone in the face.”
Mourinho and Roma have been involved in lots of controversy
Mourinho and Roma haven’t been short of controversy in recent weeks, seemingly making the headline every week for matters aside from football.
The 59-year-old has been sent off from the touchline twice while his captain Lorenzo Pellegrini was booked for time wasting by trying to take his boot off when being substituted in Roma’s win against Sampdoria.
Roma face Bodø/Glimt in the second leg of the Conference League on Thursday as they try to avoid losing to Knutsen’s side for the third time in one season.
They will have to overcome a 2-1 deficit on aggregate to reach the last four of Europe’s third-tier competition.
