Daniel Sturridge replaces him in Liverpool’s starting XI
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Roberto Firmino has picked up an injury after he was omitted from Liverpool’s matchday squad for their clash with Huddersfield.
The Liverpool manager played down any fears of a long-term injury, saying it is “not a big thing” and that they need to assess the injury.
“Yesterday after training he mentioned a little muscle issue. We assess it obviously. It’s not a big thing but was enough to leave him out today, that’s all,” Klopp said ahead of Liverpool’s game against already relegated Huddersfield.
Daniel Sturridge replaces Firmino in Liverpool’s starting line-up, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returns to the squad for the first time since suffering a knee ligament injury during the Reds’ Champions League semi-final against Roma this time last year.
Joel Matip is rested as Dejan Lovren steps in alongside Virgil Van Dijk in central defence, while Jordan Henderson anchors the midfield in the absence of Fabinho, who has been left out as a precaution after a clash of heads last weekend.
