Liverpool’s Carabao Cup game against Arsenal was postponed after a number of positive tests
Liverpool could face investigation from the EFL as to why the Liverpool players, who tested positive for Covid-19, were then found to be negative as questions are being asked about the scale of their outbreak.
As reported by the Athletic, the EFL received several complaints after Liverpool’s request for the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal to be postponed was accepted after manager Jurgen Klopp recently admitted that of the club’s positive tests were “false positives.”
After his side’s win against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup on Sunday, he said: “We had last week a proper outbreak and it showed up that we had a lot of false positives but the rules are like they are so all these players who are false positives couldn’t play.
“The only real positive came from Trent Alexander-Arnold and all the rest were false positives.”
The revelation from Klopp means that those players who initially tested positive then turned out to test negative, with the clubs complaining wanting clarity over when Liverpool found out this information.
If it’s confirmed that the results of the test were found out before the game against Arsenal, it means that the game would have been able to go ahead. Sources have said that Liverpool undertook at least two rounds of test prior to getting the game postponed.
The EFL are likely to investigate and if Liverpool are found guilty of failing to fulfil a fixture without just cause, they are likely to be hit with a severe punishment.
