Liverpool have been given a deadline to sign Nabil Fekir, according to reports in France.
Fekir remains one of Jurgen Klopp’s top targets and the move was almost completed prior to the World Cup but Liverpool pulled out of the deal at the last minute.
A fee of €55 million plus €5 million in add-ons was agreed for the Lyon attacking midfielder, who reportedly gave an interview to Liverpool’s website before he set off for Russia.
But the Reds called the whole thing off after Fekir completed his medical.
However the interest remains there from both sides and French outlet L’Equipe report that Liverpool have until the end of this month to get the deal done.
Lyon do not want to be left without a replacement if the Merseyside club leave it late to return with an offer for the World Cup winner.
Several other clubs are interested in Fekir, with suggestions that Manchester United and Real Madrid could take advantage of Liverpool’s hesitation to get the deal over the line last month.
But it’s understood that Anfield is the player’s preferred destination and Fekir even let out a wry smile when a supporter shouted “Liverpool” in his direction at an airport following France’s World Cup triumph.
Shouted Liverpool at Fekir and he heard me, looked back and smiled. There’s no way to describe the feeling. #lfc #fekir #LiverpoolFC #WorldCup2018 #football pic.twitter.com/NDjkzc1xcR
