Taking a leaf out of United’s book
Liverpool will subsidise the cost of away tickets for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.
Barca are charging Liverpool fans an astronomical £102 a ticket, which is in line with their typical away end prices, but Reds are taking action to mitigate the cost to their fans. So, they’re charging travelling Spanish fans the same, an extra £27.
That extra cash is then being used to bring down the cost for Liverpool’s 4,600 away fans.
Manchester United did similar in their eventually unsuccessful venture to Catalan country, labelling Barca’s pricing as excessive.
Barcelona charging #LFC fans €119 for tickets for the first leg at the Nou Camp. As a result Liverpool will charge Barca fans €119 for the game at Anfield and use the €31 extra to subsidise tickets for the 4,600 Kopites travelling to Spain.

A club statement from Anfield said: “The club believes parity of pricing is the most logical approach and remains committed to working with Uefa, ECA (European Club Association) and other member clubs with a view to introducing a more structured ticket pricing process for Champions League matches.”
During Liverpool’s last 16 against Bayern Munich the Kop applauded a banner unfurled by the German fans calling for fairer match pricing.
