First of all, congratulations if you don’t yet know who the hell Malcom is.
In January, the 20-year-old Brazilian winger featured in the transfer gossip columns on a daily basis with rumours swirling that Arsenal and Tottenham were keen on bringing him to North London from current club, Bordeaux.
A move never materialised, with the Ligue 1 club said to be reluctant to let the player leave halfway through the season. This doesn’t mean, however, that he won’t be the subject of more transfer gossip in the weeks to come – especially if he does enough to earn himself a seat on Brazil’s plane to Russia.
Given that Manchester United bolstered their attacking ranks with Alexis Sanchez in January, it seems unlikely that they will be interested in Malcom’s signature any time soon. This might come as a disappointment to the winger, who is believed to have identified Old Trafford as his preferred destination when he does eventually get a move away from Bordeaux.
As covered by Sport Witness, a fan-led Bordeaux website claim to have their own information on their star player and state that the player has indicated to his entourage that he wants a move to United.
Although Jose Mourinho has ruled out moves for attacking players in the summer, his insistence on playing Sanchez on the left means a move for Malcom might appeal to him -particularly if the United boss isn’t keen on deploying Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial on the opposite wing to the Chilean.
Time will tell, but we’d be surprised if Malcom ends up at Old Trafford next season.
