Fred looks well on his way to justifying his £52 million fee.
Jose Mourinho handed Fred his first start as Manchester United claimed a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid on Tuesday night and supporters were thrilled by their new signing’s performance.
Fred looked composed on the ball against the reigning European champions and began several attacks from midfield with impressive vision and execution from his deep role.
The Brazilian’s individual highlights from the game in Miami suggest that he is going to be massively popular at Old Trafford next season.

Mourinho is famously fond of powerful, physical players but he described Fred as a different kind of talent when he moved from Shakhtar Donetsk in June.
“Fred is a technical player,” Mourinho said after the 25-year-old signed. “Having people in the squad like (Nemanja) Matic, (Marouane) Fellaini, Pogba, even Ander (Herrera) – physical people, strong – we think a player like Fred, Andreas Pereira – more technical, more quality of passing, playing in short spaces – will maybe connect with the attacking players.
“We thought that he could be an important player for us – but let’s wait.”
After Michael Carrick’s retirement at the end of last season, supporters are delighted to see such a calm presence in the heart of their midfield.

Gutted. Fell asleep mid game last night. From what I saw Fred looked immense, so calm and composed under the pressure. The play for Sanchez’ goal was great and a great finish to end it. Any talking points from around the 30th minute onwards that I missed? #MUFC

Back to the top. Beat CL winners, Fred’s the best CM I’ve seen since Iniesta, Pereira looking like a 60m signing, Sanchez looking unstoppable. Buzzin for the season. #mufc

Fred looks like the player we were hoping he'd be doesn't he, with both him and Pogba involved in a midfield 3 we shouldn't struggle as much getting the ball forward and shouldn't be as many gaps in the middle all the time as there were last season #mufc

Bonkers that we’ve had Fred the Red wasting his time dancing for fans and making a fool of himself at halftime at OT when we could have had him playing in central midfield tearing it up. #MUFC
