Manchester United and Barcelona target ‘wants to stay’ in Bundesliga, says player’s father

Luka Jovic is one of the most sought after strikers in Europe

Several major clubs are lining up to bid for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic but the Serb’s father has warned any potential suitors off from getting their hopes up.

The Bundesliga club are flying with the 21-year-old spearheading their attack, currently inside the top-four with a four-point gap to their nearest rivals – and qualifying for the Champions League is Jovic’s top priority.

That’s according to his father, Milan Jovic, who claims that Barcelona are so far the biggest club to have made an offer – that he rejected.

“Luka has had many offers, one of them was Barcelona, but he’s not interested now,” he told Bild.

“He isn’t sure he would get any minutes at Barcelona.

“The truth is that Luka wants to stay in the Bundesliga and qualify with Eintracht for the Champions League.”

Jovic has also been linked to Manchesters United and City, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Real Madrid, off the back of a season in which he has bagged 25 goals in all competitions. That includes a winner away at Inter in the Europa League last-16 and five in one night against Fortuna Dusseldorf.

It has been widely reported that Liverpool are after a new attacker this summer, Thorgan Hazard and Paulo Dybala some of the early names touted ahead of the transfer window opening in a couple months’ time.

But Barcelona were thought to be leading the way in the race for Jovic and the news that they had already pitched an offer fits that, although Jovic’s stance that he can’t oust Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez in the starting XI is probably fair enough.
