Ole isn’t going anywhere anytime soon
Manchester United have no plans in place to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the derby last weekend.
Solskjaer has come under huge pressure in recent weeks, with several reports suggesting that the Norwegian had three games to save his job after a 5-0 humiliation to rivals Liverpool.
A win against Tottenham Hotspur and draw away to Atalanta – thanks to a last-minute equaliser from Cristiano Ronaldo – looked to have calmed the situation, but the loss to their city rivals sparked a fresh conversation about Solskjaer’s future.
According to Sky Sports, it is expected that Solskjaer will be in charge for United’s first game after the international break against Watford.
After the derby day defeat, Gary Neville believed that if Solskjaer is to be sacked, it wouldn’t happen until the outgoing Ed Woodward officially leaves the club.
However it is reported that Woodward’s inevitable departure, or appointing his replacement, would have no bearing on Solskjaer’s future with the final call for a decision to be made by absentee chairman, Joel Glazer.
Despite the many questions around his future, the United boss said that he wasn’t feeling the pressure and that he can help turn the poor form around.
“No, I don’t start to feel like that,” said the Norwegian.
“I have good communication all the time with the club that’s very upfront and honest about the situation.
“I’m sure when we come back the players will be fresh in their minds from internationals, and of course the demands on the players, on me, are going to be high.
“We’ve just got to get back to what we started to look like and what we were for a while. We’ve got the players to do that.
“We’ve been through this a few times. Since the last game we played here [Liverpool defeat], it’s been a very difficult period and we’ve gone away from what we used to be. We need to be on the front foot more, I can’t look at myself and say this is the way I want Manchester United to play.”
That may prove to be a tougher task than it may seem for Solskjaer, with reports of a ‘revolt’ amongst players within the squad, with key figure Bruno Fernandes rumoured to be one of those happy with the manager.
