They’ve been smashing new records all season

It has been clear since the first few weeks of the season that Manchester City would regain the title this year. They were runaway leaders for most of the season and won the league in style, blowing teams away with their intense and expansive brand of football. A lot has been made of the money spent by Pep Guardiola in acquiring this squad, but when you see the the numbers his team have hit this season, you can’t argue with his coaching ability.

City beat Southampton 1-0 this afternoon thanks to a very late Gabriel Jesus goal, sparking wild celebrations in the away end. Pep Guardiola even sprinted down the touchline to celebrate. This might have seemed a bit over the top given the fact that they’ve already won the league, but this goal clinched seven more records to add to Manchester City’s impressive season.

This win lifted City to 100 points, making them the first team to ever reach the milestone. They’ve also scored the most goals ever in a Premier League season, with 106, and have recorded the most wins in a Premier League season, with 32.

They’ve also broken records for:

Best goal difference (+79)

Biggest winning margin (19 points clear of Man United)

Most away wins (16)

Most away points (50)

Most wins in a top flight season (32)

The scary thing is, they’ll probably be even better next season.
