The role is listed as having an “emphasis on goalkeepers”
Manchester United have listed a vacancy on their official website looking for a first team recruitment analyst, with a focus on goalkeepers.
The listing, which was posted on the club’s website on Tuesday, comes at a time of intense scrutiny aimed at first choice goalkeeper David de Gea.
The role, which reports back to the club’s Technical Chief Scout, requires the successful candidate to contribute to the “delivery of a comprehensive performance analysis service with a specific emphasis on goalkeepers”.
Despite recording 12 Premier League clean sheets during the 2019/20 campaign, the Spanish goalkeeper’s overall game has been blighted by a number of high profile handling errors.
In the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea earlier this month De Gea was blamed for poor goalkeeping for each of Chelsea’s three goals in their 3-1 win, but it was his error for Mason Mount’s goal (Chelsea’s second) which led to loudened calls for him to be dropped ahead of next season and replaced by Dean Henderson.
Henderson has been on loan at Sheffield United for a number of seasons and has impressed enormously during his first season in the top flight. His performances, alongside those of his teammates, led the Blades to a top flight finish in their first season back in the Premier League in more than a decade.
