Manuel Pellegrini has been named the new manager of West Ham United, replacing David Moyes on a three-year deal after leaving Chinese Super League club Hebei China Fortune.

The Premier League-winning manager, who has also coached Villarreal, Real Madrid and Malaga during his career, joins the east London club after two years in China.

Speaking to the club’s official website today, joint-chairman David Sullivan said:

“I am delighted to welcome Manuel Pellegrini to West Ham United. He is one of the world’s most respected football coaches and we look forward to working with him.

“It was important that we appointed someone with knowledge and experience of the Premier League, who already has an understanding – not only of the teams and players we face – but of West Ham United and our ambitions.

“Manuel brings a reputation for attacking football and getting the best out of his players. We believe he will attract new talent to the London Stadium as well as improving the current squad.”

He replaces Moyes, who enjoyed a turbulent and short spell at the club after the sacking of Slaven Bilic. Though he steered the club away from the relegation zone, Moyes’ tenure was marred by bitter protests by fans.
