“We have to look at ourselves, see what we can do better”
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has insisted that he and his teammates must go “back to basics” in order for the Red Devils to address their poor form.
The forward spoke to the press ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League game against Atalanta where the 23-year-old is expected to start for the first time this season after making his first appearance in the 4-2 defeat to Leicester City, where he scored on his return.
Rashford also revealed what was said in a dressing room conversation between the players after the weekend defeat and stated that he and his teammates must do the simple things better if they are to return to winning ways.
Speaking in the Manchester Evening News he said: “At a club like Manchester United, as soon as you lose a game this is what happens.
“For us as players, we have to go back to basics, we have to look at ourselves, see what we can do better.
“We’ve had a conversation as a team, as we would do whether we win a game or lose a game. We know the next game is another opportunity for us to improve and that’s always the aim.”
The United forward then went on to say that they have a great chance to turn their fortunes around when they return to action at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
“It’s not only after defeats [that we have these conversations],” said Rashford.
“After some games when we win and we know we’ve not played well, it’s as important if not more important to have the conversation then because you want to nip it in the bud as soon as possible.
“Especially in the Premier League, you have to defend well. I don’t just talk about the goalkeeper and back four, as a team, you have to defend as one, and against Leicester it was too open, as simple as that.
“They’re a good footballing team, as there are a lot of them out there, and it was too easy to play through us, it’s something we’ve analysed and we’re going to do our best not to let it happen again.
“And the game tomorrow is the first opportunity for us to show that, so we’re fully focused on that.”
