Greenwood’s bail was due to end on April 30
Mason Greenwood will remain on bail until mid-June over allegations that he raped and assaulted a young woman in January.
The 20-year-old was arrested after images and videos were posted online and was also questioned by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of threats to kill.
Greenwood’s bail has been extended until mid-June
As per the BBC, GMP also confirmed that they were continuing to investigate online social media images and videos which detail reports of physical violence.
The Manchester United forward was released on bail as a result, with the bail set to end on April 30, however it has now been confirmed he will remain on bail until the date of the court hearing, which is expected to take place in June.
A force spokesperson said: “We are continuing to investigate a report made to us on Sunday 30 January of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
“A 20-year-old man arrested that day on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman, and threats to kill, remains on bail.
“An application has been made to the courts to have his bail extended beyond Saturday 30 April, but the hearing isn’t expected to be until mid-June.
“The suspect will remain on conditional bail until the date of the court hearing.”
Greenwood is currently suspended by Man United
As a result of the ongoing allegations, Greenwood was promptly suspended by United and will not return to training or playing in the match day squads until the investigation is completed.
The likes of Nike also severed ties with the forward in response to the allegations while popular video games FIFA and Football Manager have removed Greenwood from their databases.
