Mo Salah is very good at football.
What more can really be said about Mohamed Salah? The Egyptian forward is the man of the moment in football, leading Liverpool’s line with such terrifying ingenuity and verve that him scoring a goal is the closest thing to a guarantee these days.
His level of play has naturally prompted comparisons between himself and the world’s best and after his goal against West Brom on Saturday, he now officially sits alongside them.
That goal at the Hawthorns, which gave Liverpool a two goal lead which they would eventually go on to lose, was the former Roma man’s 31st league goal this campaign and 41st in total.
That number – 31 – means that Salah has equalled the record for Premier League goals in a single 38-game campaign, a record held by Alan Shearer (1995/96), Cristiano Ronaldo (2007/08) and Luis Suarez (2013/14).
With three games remaining in the season, Salah looks set to break that record now. And if his scoring form continues at the same pace it has done all season, there is a serious chance of him breaking the all-time record for goals in a Premier League season.
That record is currently held by both Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, who scored 34 goals for Blackburn and Newcastle in 1994/95 and 1993/94 respectively.
Will he do that? Only a fool would rule it out. If he does, the arguments for his inclusion in the Premier League’s “best of” lists will grow stronger every day.
