Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne keeps being paired with tall mascots and it’s pretty damn funny

A small man standing next to a tall child shouldn't be this funny

They’re making a habit of it, and it’s definitely not an accident.

Napoli and Italy forward Lorenzo Insigne is a footballer of immense talent. His quick thinking, eye for goal and lightning pace helped lift his team to the summit of Serie A for much of the season, and has seen him become a central figure in the Italian national team.

He is also, quite obviously to all who have ever laid eyes upon him, a very short man. Standing at a not-so-lofty 5 foot 3 inches, Insigne’s lack verticality has yet to negatively effect his career to date.

It has however presented some hilarious situations, namely due to the fact that the 26-year-old continues to be paired with the tallest available mascots prior to competitive matches.

Now, to the sophisticates among our audience this may not seem to be the funniest thing in the world, perhaps they just see it as a short man standing next to some freakishly tall children.

The greatest aspect of this though is the sheer planning that obviously goes into it.

It’s the sort of joke that is sort of funny at first, but gets funnier each and every time it’s repeated due to the commitment to the bit.

The fact that grown adults need to coordinate and communicate regularly purely to illustrate that this player is indeed as small as some children.

And it is all topped off by the expressions on the faces of both Insigne and his teammates, who are aware that while it is immature and low-brow humour, it remains unerringly hilarious. Long may it continue.
