Done deal. And this time, it’s too late for West Brom to swoop in at the last minute and ruin things.
Yes, Newcastle United have made their first signing of the January window, less than 24 hours after missing out on Daniel Sturridge. Chelsea youngster Kenedy will spend the rest of the season on loan on Tyneside.
Whereas Sturridge is believed to have turned down a move to the north east to be nearer to his family, Kenedy named Santiago Muñez as the reason he opted for a switch to St James’ Park. Sort of.
Having inked his deal with Newcastle, the Brazilian claimed that he already knew a little bit about his new club – adding that he’s also watched the film Goal!.

The film, released in 2005, followed Mexican-born, inhaler-wielding Muñez from his home in Los Angeles to the world of professional football, where he eventually signed for Newcastle. If you haven’t seen it, go on, educate yourself…
“When I was a child, I used to play with my friends in the streets and I always dreamt being in a club like this one,” Kenedy said on his move to Newcastle. “And now the dream has come true.”
The 21-year-old could be set to make his debut for Newcastle on Wednesday night when they host Burnley.
