Jose Mourinho is gone, and things already appear on the up for Manchester United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s spell as interim manager got off to an impressive start on Saturday evening as United won 5-1 at Cardiff City – the first time the club have scored five goals in a Premier League game since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final game in charge in 2013.
Paul Pogba was not amongst the scorers, but turned in arguably his best performance of the entire season in the win. He won the free-kick from which Marcus Rashford scored the opening goal and assisted Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard’s second goal of the game.
Since returning to United two and a half years ago, Pogba has struggled for consistency, with reports over the last year claiming his relationship with Mourinho had broken down entirely. When news of Mourinho’s departure was confirmed, many interpreted a poorly timed ‘caption this’ Instagram post from Pogba to be a dig at the Portuguese.
The post has since been explained as a scheduled post by adidas, and Pogba thanked Mourinho after the win at Cardiff.
“We won trophies with Jose and I want to thank him for that,” he said.
“He makes me improve, as a person as well, and that’s it. That’s the past, I want to thank him for that.
“I’m sure that is the same for all the players and now we are looking forward to the next game.”

Following the win at Cardiff came another Pogba Instagram post. Adding a cartoon version of his face to the image posted in the immediate aftermath of Mourinho’s departure from Old Trafford, Pogba’s caption reads ‘Now caption this ? big announcement later today’.
The announcement has now been made.
However, fans hoping for a contract update will be disappointed to find out he was only teasing his new ‘Pogmoji App’ app. Still, with no more Jose it seems more likely than it did this time last week he will be staying a Red.
