People absolutely loved Roy Keane’s takedown of Jerome Boateng

Keane was not impressed by Boateng's trainer collection

Typically reserved from Mr. Keane

Roy Keane has always been one to speak his mind. Whether it’s at Old Trafford, Celtic Park, the Stadium of Light or the ITV studios, the former Manchester United captain is always good value for a quote.

During the World Cup, Keane has been a welcome member of ITV’s punditry team, offering curt and often scathing opinions on everything from performances to Carlos Queiroz’ coaching style.

Today though Keane took aim at Germany defender Jerome Boateng, who was sent off after picking up two yellow cards during his side’s 2-1 victory over Sweden in their second World Cup group game.

Prior to Boateng’s sending off, the ITV commentary team mentioned the fact that the Bayern Munich centre-back have a real affinity for trainers, as well as the fact that he may well own as many as 650 pairs.

One person to take particular issue with this was, shock horror, Keane, who presumably found it absolutely ludicrous that anyone, anywhere in the world, would require more than one pair of shoes.

Discussing Boateng’s sending off uring the post-match discussion on the game, Keane said of the defender’s trainer obsession:

“Jerome Boateng? I heard he has 650 pairs of shoes, he can’t be right upstairs!”

Now, whether Boateng’s shoe love actually has an effect on his performances remain to be seen, but nonetheless people absolutely loved it.
