Paul Pogba’s cryptic tweet suggests his comments about Wolves draw have been taken out of context

Manchester United dropped more points at the weekend

Despite taking a first-half lead via Fred’s first goal for the club, Wolverhampton Wanderers drew level through Joao Moutinho after the break – a goal which proved to be the final one of the game.

Speaking after the game, Paul Pogba acknowledged that United’s performance was below par, calling on his teammates to play more attacking football when playing at Old Trafford.

“We should play much better against Wolves,” the World Cup winner told reporters. “When we are at home we should attack, attack, attack.

“That’s Old Trafford. We are here to attack. I think teams are scared when they see Manchester United attacking and attacking.

“That was our mistake today. We’ve had three games at home and we’ve got only four points. It’s not enough.

“Maybe the attitude should be better and we should play better because, again, we are at Old Trafford and we should just attack and press like we did against Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal last season. When we play like this it’s easier for us.

Asked why United hadn’t caused Wolves more problems, Pogba responded by suggesting some of his teammates were too static: “I can’t tell you because I’m a player – it’s not me. I’m not the manager, I cannot say that, but obviously we should show more options of playing, but I cannot say that because I’m a player. That’s my way of thinking – we should move better, we should move more.

Some reports have interpreted Pogba’s comments as undermining Jose Mourinho’s instructions to the team, perhaps prompting the tweet Pogba sent early on Monday afternoon.

‘Some people make polemic even from ‘good morning’ to create drama,’ Pogba’s tweet reads. ‘Big Pogoodmorning everyone hope u get it twisted’.

United’s draw with Wolves brings to an end a run of three consecutive wins against Burnley, Watford and Young Boys. Having already lost to Brighton and Tottenham prior to the last international break, they are now eight points off league leaders Liverpool after six games.

United return to action on Tuesday night when they host Derby County in the Carabao Cup. Their next league game sees them travel to West Ham next weekend.
