Maguire has struggled for form at Man United this season
Maguire has struggled for form this season in a United shirt and played the full 90 minutes in a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night.
The defender’s form has also sparked question marks over his role as the club’s captain, with many believing that he should be stripped of his current role, and even dropped from the side.
Fresh questions may be asked as well now that the club have confirmed the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the new boss at Old Trafford.
The 50-year-old will take the reins from the start of next season and is expected to lead a mass overhaul of the squad, with several first-team players set to move on.
One position Ten Hag is looking at is the centre-back position as he aims to find someone who is comfortable with playing in a high line.
It’s unknown if Ten Hag plans to keep Maguire as captain or even consider him as someone who can be a part of the new United vision.
United are currently sixth in the table and are three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
